Rationale

My aim was to select an interesting infographic and turn it into an animation using time based techniques to improve the communication of relevant information.

I wanted to have an infographic based around the theme of 'the end of the world', so I chose this one because it stood out from the rest - it focused on what people would do in the last year before the end, not just another gloomy style with facts about how the world is dying. I see it as looking on the bright side of an apocalypse, 11 months of total freedom to do whatever you have always wanted to do.

I chose to keep the colour scheme because it utilised bright, lively colours that contrast well with each other. It sticks with the theme of 'looking on the bright side of death
'.

I used an audio track that has a strong beat so that I could animate the infographic to bounce and transition naturally, making it visually pleasing. It has an upbeat style to it, so it fits in with the theme.

Title

I have titled my project THE END, referring to the end of the world. I will also be using the intro as the outro to link it together and wrap up the animation effectively.

Music

I have chosen to use Kevin Macleod's RetroFuture ~ Clean for the music track as it has a really strong beat throughout, and has a 'happy' feel to it, which fits my project.

Vectors

All the imagery I need have been made into vectors in illustrator, and exported into after effects.

Vector Icons

I have made all the icons I need to include in the graphs and charts in illustrator

Animatic

I made an animatic that will help with pacing and the overall feel of the infographic. Obviously the transitions are at a basic stage and will be improved. I plan on timing the information to pop up and flow with the music as much as possible.

Sketch 'Storyboard'

I sketched up a basic storyboard to show what assets I need and what order they will appear

Confirm Topic

I have decided to go with the idea of "What would you do as the world ends", because in my opinion it is a more interesting look at an apocalypse. It will have an upbeat feel, focusing on how people will spend their last year together instead of what will cause the end.

I will use this infographic as the design style and reference for information

Idea for Topic

I have decided on an infographic around the idea of the end of the world, with main theme possibilities such as:

-What will be the final end
-What can we do to stop it
-How would you spend your last moments
-Failed predictions
-How have we caused this

I have collected some examples of infographics around this theme

Examples of Animated Infographics

This is an interesting infographic. In my opinion, it drags on a bit too long, with the repetitive music making it more obvious - but it has a wonderfully clean aesthetic, with true consistency and a smooth pace.

I like how this infographic uses different design styles, changing to the style of the website that it talking about as it goes. I feel it could have benefited to have a voice-over to keep it interesting.

This one it quite long but it remains interesting the whole way through with amazing graphics. It is a perfect example of how even a boring subject such as credit and mortgages can still be entertaining and hold your attention by using an animated infographic, rather than if it was just written down somewhere.
